Get To Know Stephen Zucal

"No two feet are the same, therefore no two custom orthotics are the same."

Stephen Zucal, a podiatrist and expert in foot health for over 30 years, has focused on helping people alleviate their chronic problems related to feet through surgery or nonsurgical options like orthotics (footwear inserts) and physical therapy.

Stephen’s 30 years of experience has allowed him to do all sorts of things, from general podiatry and soft tissue surgical procedures to sports podiatry and musculoskeletal disorders.

While his main interest has always been biomechanics and engineering of the foot and lower leg. He pioneered a unique system of treatment that focuses on identifying primary biomechanical dysfunction (posture and angles of the foot and leg) resulting in individual custom prescription with his innovative orthotics design helping thousands of Western Australians reduce their pain.

With a love for engineering studies and its application in podiatry, in 1995 he collaborated with Mike Stovell, a physiotherapist and sports podiatrician, on an investment for the F Scan Computer Gait Analysis system. This allowed him the opportunity to be the first Australian podiatrist to utilise this system for clinical assessment and research pertaining to biomechanics and foot dysfunction.

His use of advanced methods in treatment combined with hard work resulted in amazing outcomes across all demographics he serves including seniors who are most at risk for debilitating or chronic pain caused by plantar fasciitis, shin splints, tendon inflammation (Achilles), bunions, and other foot ailments; athletes whose careers were put on hold due to knee patella femoral syndrome as well as those suffering from Flat Feet syndrome, which can also lead them into an early retirement if not treated properly soon enough.

As a kid, I always wanted to be a policeman!

For as long as I can remember I wanted to be in the police force. I was an active kid playing sports and always outdoors. I love martial arts (Tae Kwondo) and achieved my black belt by the age of 12.
I watched too much Kojak as a kid!

So, what happened?

Yes, I did become a policeman…..that was after studying at UWA.
I started engineering studies then switched to Podiatry, as I was always interested in sport, human movement and bio-mechanics of the human body.
Then as a qualified podiatrist I was accepted into the West Australian police force.

Then I had a change of heart again!

After three years in the police force I left to establish a podiatry practice in Victoria Park, due to my interest in the biomechanics and engineering of the foot and lower leg.
am very proud to say that I have pioneered a unique system of podiatry treatment and orthotics in WA, reducing pain and benefitting thousands of people.

The optimal solution:

Identification of the primary biomechanical dysfunction (posture and angles of the foot and leg) resulting in individual custom prescription orthotics. No two feet are the same - therefore no two custom orthotics are the same.
